🤦🏾♂️ Is Obama Throwing Black Men Under the Bus?
In a nail-biter of a race, Kamala Harris is struggling to win over voters. She’s hitting the media circuit hard, but one demographic seems to be on everyone’s mind: Black men. While they typically back the Democratic Party, Trump and the GOP are busy trying to charm them with empty promises of empowerment (as if we haven’t heard that one before). And the Democrats, sweating bullets at the thought of losing even a smidge of that support, summoned their not-so-secret weapon, former President Barack Obama. But was he there to rally them or to shame them?
At a Harris-Walz campaign field office in Pittsburgh, Obama had blunt words for Black male voters contemplating a vote for Trump or sitting out altogether:
“Part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that.”
— former President Barack Obama
Democratic circles praised his comments as a necessary jab against misogyny, but let’s be real: is this more about strategy or just a convenient scapegoat when things inevitably go south?
The Harris campaign is banking on high Black turnout in battleground states to win in November, while Trump tries to boost his appeal among Black men. But hold on—polling shows that 77% of Black voters view Harris favorably, and support from Black men and women is practically identical. So while support amongst Black voters has dropped for Harris, it’s not simply because of Black men. So, here’s the kicker: Obama’s comments miss the point entirely. Black men are backing Harris just like their female counterparts. Instead of addressing potential misogyny, maybe the campaign should figure out why some voters aren’t convinced she’ll steer the country in the right direction.
With plenty of other voting groups needing attention before Election Day, why are Black men getting scolded? The handful who lean toward Trump are mostly influenced by generational factors, not some secret plot against women. Overall, their support for Harris mirrors that of Black women, and their voting patterns aren’t all that different. And yes, Black men often times vote less than Black women, but not because there is a woman on the ticket.
But it seems regardless of how the Black male vote shakes out, if Harris loses to Trump, get ready for the narrative: Black men and misogyny are to blame for her defeat. Because, of course, nothing says "politics" like having a scapegoat ready to go!
🇮🇱 Israel’s Modern Holocaust: Live-Streaming Tragedy
Full honesty, I’m getting tired. Tired of scrolling through my phone to see genocide unfold like a macabre live stream. While the atrocities pile up, the U.S. government is happily funding the worst of humanity—like a patron at a very dark comedy show, laughing while the punchlines land heavy. It’s baffling how America’s cocktail of Zionist Evangelism, Islamophobia, and desensitized politics has paved the way for such a massive injustice.
When Israel bombed the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, my feed was flooded with gut-wrenching images of Palestinians in agony, hooked up to IVs and engulfed in flames. How did we get here? How did we allow another holocaust to creep up on us while we binge-watch reality TV?
And let’s talk about the elephant in the room: how are we okay with our tax dollars being funneled into this horror show? I’m not here just to complain, but honestly, I’m exhausted. It feels like I’m stuck in an endless loop of outrage while the world burns.
📽️ Now That’s Cinema!: Scream 2
“SEQUELS SUCK!” BUT NOT THIS ONE: 3/4⭐
The Scream franchise is undoubtedly one of the best in horror, and Scream 2? It’s a wild ride that takes self-awareness to the next level. This sequel pokes fun at every tired horror trope you can think of, all while cleverly subverting them. It cranks up the fun, thrills, and meta humor to eleven, making it an outrageously entertaining follow-up.
The set pieces are not just designed; they’re masterpieces of tension! Each iconic moment is begging to be referenced at your next horror movie night. And Wes Craven proves once again that he’s the king of horror—seriously, his films deserve a spot in the horror hall of fame.
Want to dive even deeper? Lucky you! I joined Brad and Ann on their podcast Somebody’s Glory Days to chat about everything Scream 2, and it says about higher education, young adulthood, and campus life. If you love a good slasher or just want some laughs, tune in!
🐘 Kamala Harris’s Quest for GOP Love
As election day creeps closer, Kamala Harris is all-in on her quest to charm frustrated Republican voters. It’s like watching a sitcom where the lead suddenly decides to date the villain—she’s been seen cozying up to Liz Cheney and even promises to include a Republican in her cabinet.
Now, Harris is parading around with unconditional support for Israel and stricter border policies, while her progressive supporters look on in disbelief. The Harris-Walz campaign is rolling out some of the most conservative messaging the Democratic Party has seen in years, leaving many wondering if they accidentally tuned into the wrong channel. It feels less like a campaign and more like a desperate attempt to win over their arch rival’s base rather than rallying the loyal fans who’ve been in their corner forever.
And let’s be real: this effort to channel her inner Joe Biden as a “moderate” Democrat seems to be doing more for Trump’s standing than two assassination attempts could manage. The campaign’s momentum has hit such a hard stop you could hear the brakes screeching from a mile away. As Harris attempts to balance wooing swing voters with keeping her base intact, one can’t help but ask: can she really pull off this high-wire act before it all comes crashing down?
👺 Behind the Mask
Doing: Voting early. Because who wants to deal with the chaos of election day? Anyone who knows me knows I hate lines, so why stand in line for hours when I can get voting over with. If you haven’t already, find your polling place, skip the long lines and get your civic duty done.
Listening: Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat by Charli xcx. usually can’t stand remixes—they often feel like a lazy facelift for the original. But Charli flipped the script and delivered some real bangers! While I’m still loyal to the original, those remixes are slowly winning me over. Love when a fresh beat can make a living room feel like a club.
Watching: Abbot Elementary. Thank the sitcom gods, TV’s best workplace comedy is back!! The chaos of public school life and mixture of lovable and ridiculous characters is pure gold, making me laugh while also making me grateful I’m not dealing with actual classrooms. I can’t wait to see what shenanigans they get into this season—real-life teaching has never looked this fun!
